A home by Precision Builders in the Seminole Valley area can truly be called a winner.

The five-bedroom walkout ranch, at 6402 River Parkway NE in Cedar Rapids, won in its category during the Fall Parade of Homes.

It’s no wonder. The stunning custom-built home showcases cutting-edge features that make it truly unique.

Some of the elements that Kelly Wulfekuhle chose to customize the home were not even available locally yet and had to be special-ordered, such as the backsplash for the wet bar in the basement. Wulfekuhle saw the tile online and thought it would be perfect for the bar, which offers a striking but subtle contrast to the dark granite counter tops.

Her husband, Arron Wulfekuhle, is the owner of Precision Builders, which has built its reputation around quality craftsmanship. “He’s hands-on,” Wulfekuhle said of her husband. “He’s actually doing the work when he’s building a house, not just managing it.”

That work shines in the River Parkway home. The dark gray exterior contrasts with lighter shades of gray in the cultured Centurion Stone at the entrance. An 8-foot plank door with three latches provides a glimpse at the classic detailing seen throughout the home and opens into the main living area, which sports an 11-foot ceiling lit by sleek, modern light fixtures.

A popular, open floor plan is family-friendly and ideal for entertaining and comfortable daily living.

The focal point of the great room is the floor-to-ceiling fireplace made with birch honed real stone — a pale veined limestone with a smooth finish — that provides a unique stacking effect to the fireplace and a contrast to the maple flooring with its dark custom stain. Floor-to-ceiling windows flank the fireplace and provide plenty of natural lighting.

Wulfekuhle said she chose the dark hues in the floors and marble counter tops in the kitchen to provide a contrast to the custom kitchen cabinetry, as well, with their hint of cream color. Like the tile in the basement wet bar, the kitchen backsplash also has a unique, modern look, while the walk-in pantry provides ample storage room and stainless steel appliances add to the sleek and functional kitchen.

Just off the kitchen, the laundry room has a multi-purpose feature in its built-in drying racks and the three-stall garage is heated, with a floor drain, hot and cold water and Vroom built-in overhead vacuum connected to the central vac.

Both the garage and oversized, maintenance-free covered deck are cable-ready. Outside, the covered deck offers a view of the hillside neighborhood, with the home situated at the top of a gentle slope.

On the other side of the great room, the master bedroom features a tray ceiling, along with luxuriously plush carpeting in the same hues as the other first-floor bedrooms, separated by the Jack and Jill bathroom.

Wulfekuhle said she chose warm gray tones throughout the house, while closet doors are structured with a clean-lined Shaker design. “I like it to all flow,” she said, “but in that traditional, modern feel.”

The master bathroom features double vanity sinks with oversized mirrors and a tile-surround shower, and all of the bathrooms include counter-height granite vanities.

Going into the basement, custom railings continue those clean lines that are featured throughout the house. The lower level provides plenty of storage space and area for a workout room in its 1,500-square-feet. Overall, the house has just over 3,400 total square feet and offers a Sonos surround sound system throughout the home.

The covered patio in the walk-out is made of stamped concrete with a waterproof ceiling, perfect for sitting outdoors, even in the rain, to enjoy the view while staying dry.
