Building Your Home With Heart

Building Your Home With Heart

Homebuilder Pat Cook has a special feeling about the home he built at 1217 Rolling Glen Drive in Marion. He should. “It’s basically the same as the house I built for myself,” says Cook, owner of Patrick Cook Construction, Inc.

Cook is a craftsman at heart. His love of woodworking and attention to detail are apparent throughout this home, even before you go inside. Two stone, brick, and wood columns on the front porch flank the custom-built front door, providing a welcoming frame for guests and family. The rest of the home’s exterior combines easy-care shakes with unique stones and brick. A peaked roofline adds curb appeal.

Just inside is a large open space—the home’s great room and kitchen area. Large windows at the back of the home let in light and views of the home’s spacious yard. A fireplace sits between those windows with a custom-designed and custom-built mantel. The entire great room and kitchen have dark-stained hardwood floors—easy to maintain and beautiful.

The design throughout the home, put into place by Barbara Green of Interiors by Barbara, has a modern look. Every piece of hardware, every fixture, and every piece of trim contributes to the clean and spare look of this home. The sleek, modern ceiling fan above the seating area near the fireplace, and the elegant pendants hanging over the kitchen island are just two examples. A warm neutral color palette complements the theme.

An open floor plan allows this home to make the most of its custom-designed kitchen—and that’s where guests and family always end up anyway. Dark-toned cabinets, gorgeous granite countertops, and top-of-the-line appliances make the kitchen both attractive and functional. Glass tiles make a backsplash with pizazz. A granite-topped kitchen island defines the space and provides an eating area—there’s more space just beyond for another table.

This home is also equipped for outside living. Just beyond sliding doors near the kitchen is an oversized deck with a short set of stairs leading down to a large patio and the lush back yard.

The main floor of this home has three bedrooms—two that share a full bath with tile floor at the front of the home, and the master suite. The master has large windows overlooking the backyard, and a spacious bathroom. Glass tiles and two shower heads make the master bath’s walk-in shower unique. Above the dual sinks in the vanity are large framed mirrors. A walk-in closet is already equipped with racks and shelves to keep things neat.

Also on this floor are a finished laundry room off the spacious three-car garage and a coat closet just across the hall.

An open staircase with wood newel posts and iron railings leads down the home’s huge lower level. Daylight windows let in plenty of light; and soft carpet pads the floor. At one end of the main room is a walk-up bar with sink, fridge, and microwave—and an entire wall of cupboards and cabinets for storage. The rec room area is wide-open, with plenty of room for couches, TVs, and game tables.

Down the hall are two additional bedrooms, each with large closets. They share a spacious bathroom with a dual sink, and separate toilet and shower room to help avoid morning bathroom traffic jams. A large unfinished room offers lots of storage area and houses the home’s energy-efficient furnace.

With three full bathrooms and five bedrooms, this home would be perfect for a family or for empty-nesters who like to provide a welcoming place to stay for family and guests. The neighborhood is just down the road from the Linn-Mar campus, and the home is just minutes from shopping.

A great location, beautiful design, and quality construction, just like the home the builder himself lives in, this house has it all--and it’s for sale. If you’re interested in seeing it for yourself, contact Realtor Cathy Hill with Skogman Realty: email Cathy@CathyHillRealtor.com or call
